Onboarding
Getting started as an energy supplier on Kinetic Grid
From initial contact to your first live offer, this guide covers every step of the supplier onboarding process on Energy Price Choice. Whether you're a regional supplier entering your first marketplace or a national brand adding a new distribution channel, the path to live offers is the same.
Step 1: Initial contact and agreement
The onboarding process begins with a conversation. Reach out through the supplier inquiry form on our site or contact the partnerships team directly. During the initial call, we'll discuss your service territories, commodity offerings, plan types, and integration preferences.
Once both parties agree on terms, you'll sign a supplier listing agreement that covers marketplace participation terms, commission structure, data handling requirements, and SLA expectations. The agreement is straightforward - most suppliers complete it within a few business days.
Step 2: Supplier metadata configuration
After the agreement is signed, our onboarding team sets up your supplier profile in the platform. This profile includes all the operational details needed to display your plans accurately and route enrollments correctly.
- Company information: Legal name, display name, logo, and a brief company description that appears on plan detail pages.
- Margin and fee structure: Default commission rates, cancellation fee schedules, and any early termination fee policies that apply to your plans.
- Cancellation terms: Standard cancellation policies, cooling-off periods, and any state-specific cancellation requirements that differ from your defaults.
- Contact information: Enrollment processing contacts, escalation contacts, and customer service contacts for post-enrollment support.
- Service territory mapping:The specific utilities and load zones you serve, mapped against the platform's canonical utility database.
Step 3: Choosing your integration path
Kinetic Grid supports two integration paths for submitting offers and receiving enrollments. Your choice depends on your technical capabilities, update frequency, and enrollment volume.
CSV-based integration
The simplest path to getting started. You prepare a rate sheet using our CSV template, submit it via email or the supplier portal, and receive enrollment notifications via email. This approach works well for suppliers with fewer than 50 active plans who update rates weekly or less frequently.
API-based integration
For suppliers who need real-time offer synchronization and instant enrollment delivery. The API uses OAuth2 authentication and supports full CRUD operations on offers plus webhook-based enrollment notifications. This path is recommended for suppliers with large plan portfolios or daily rate updates.
You can start with CSV and migrate to API later without any disruption to your live offers. Many suppliers begin with CSV to get to market quickly and transition to API as their marketplace volume grows.
Step 4: First offer upload and validation
With your supplier profile configured and integration path selected, it's time to submit your first set of offers. Whether you're using CSV or API, the validation process is the same.
The platform validates every offer against a set of rules designed to catch common errors before they reach consumers:
- Required field completeness (supplier, plan name, utility, rate, term, effective date)
- Utility territory validation against the canonical database
- Rate range sanity checks by commodity and market
- Duplicate plan detection within the same utility territory
- Effective date and expiration date logic validation
After validation, you'll receive a detailed report showing which offers passed, which were flagged, and what needs to be corrected. Passed offers move to "validated" status and are ready for publishing.
Step 5: Test enrollment walkthrough
Before your offers go live, we recommend completing at least one test enrollment in the staging environment. This end-to-end test verifies that:
- Your offers appear correctly in comparison results for the right utility territories
- Plan details (rate, term, fees, terms and conditions) display accurately
- Enrollment notifications reach your team through the configured channel (email or webhook)
- Your team can submit enrollment decisions (approve, decline, pending deposit) and the customer receives the correct notification
The test enrollment uses synthetic customer data and does not create any real utility submissions. Your onboarding contact will walk through the test with you and flag any configuration adjustments needed.
Step 6: Go-live checklist
Once testing is complete, your onboarding contact will review a go-live checklist with you before publishing your offers to production. The checklist covers:
- All validated offers reviewed and approved for publishing
- Enrollment notification routing confirmed (correct email addresses or webhook endpoints)
- Escalation contacts verified for enrollment issues
- Response time SLA acknowledged (4-hour target for enrollment decisions)
- Quality scorecard thresholds configured in the supplier portal
- Billing and commission terms confirmed
Ongoing support and account management
After going live, you'll have a dedicated account manager who serves as your primary point of contact for operational questions, performance reviews, and platform updates. Account managers provide:
- Monthly performance reviews with scorecard trends and competitive benchmarking
- Proactive alerts when quality scores drop below configured thresholds
- Guidance on plan optimization based on marketplace demand signals
- Technical support for API integration issues or CSV formatting questions
- Advance notice of platform feature releases and API changes
The goal is a partnership, not just a listing. Kinetic Grid succeeds when suppliers succeed, and the account management team is structured to help you maximize the value of your marketplace presence.
